Deploying my portfolio on AWS.

I hosted an earlier version of this portfolio on AWS EC2 to practise Linux server administration, DNS, and web deployment.

What I did

Set up an EC2 instance running Amazon Linux 2023 and configured SSH access with a key pair.
Restricted SSH to my IP address and allowed HTTP and HTTPS traffic.
Connected my domain through Namecheap DNS and configured Nginx.
Added HTTPS with a Let’s Encrypt certificate using Certbot.
Deployed the Next.js app behind Nginx and managed its process with PM2.

Tools used

AWS EC2, Amazon Linux, Nginx, Certbot, PM2, Git, and Next.js.

What I learned

I learned to trace a request from the domain to the server and application. Troubleshooting DNS records, firewall rules, and Nginx separately helped me find problems without changing everything at once.
